Hands-On Learning
written by Ms. Mercy Lay
“Design a Spacesuit” and “Planet Models”
were two Science projects given to students
in class 2A as home projects to promote
self-development.
“Design a Spacesuit” required students to
gather things around their home and create
their very own spacesuits.
Students attempted three given tasks that
imitate similarly to the challenges that astro-
nauts face while working in space, such as pick -
ing up soil or rock samples or screwing bolts while
fixing their spaceship.
“Planet Models” required
the students to do a hands-on activity
by making their very own solar system and
planets 3D models using modeling clay. Students
presented their planets’ models in front of their
classmates and verbally described at least one fun
fact of each planet.
The home projects aimed to train students’ cognitive
skill at an early age to develop their ability to transform
their knowledge into 3D visual objects.
The home projects also aimed to promote
family bonding, creativity, teamwork,
and self-confidence.
